The Amana Colonies was a collection of 7 villages centering around living a communal lifestyle that existed largely independent of the explosive economic growth of our country through the mid 1800's and early 20th Century. It is a marvelous glimpse back.

Speaking glimpses back, farming in Iowa has really changed over the last 200 years. Our visit to the Farm Museum of Marvin & Bonnie Rohlena will give you a comparative glimpse of all that was going on around the Amana Colonies during their heyday, and will also inform you of the state of the art of farming and crop production in America in the 21st.

We will have a couple of different musical groups for evening entertainments. Highway 151 is a well-respected local group offering classic hits. But the top billing is an informal performance with Grammy Award-winning Jody Miller. Her bio appears below.

As always, call the campground if you wish to extend your stay. Be sure to ask for the Rally Rate. Also, you will not be able to obtain a refund after September 15th unless we can find a replacement for your site.

Enjoy the Rally, Pat

The Jody Miller Story: Music and Milestones with the Queen of the House

As a multiple-Billboard charting entertainer, Jody Miller brings her extraordinary lifetime of show business experience to every performance she delivers.  From the “invitation only” San Remo, Italy Song Festival to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, Jody’s reputation as an energetic performer has taken her all over the world. With recording credits in genres including pop, country, folk, patriotic, and gospel music, Jody Miller’s tailors every performance to please her audience. As a vocal artist who is as much at home with her Martin tenor guitar as she is with a forty piece orchestra, Grammy winning Jody brings a uniquely legendary quality to each stage she graces.

Jody Miller’s status as a trail blazing vocal artist has been affirmed by Brian Matthew, radio host of BBC2’s “Sounds of the 60’s”, who has said on air that “Jody Miller is the pioneering vocal artist who paved the way for the likes of Linda Ronstadt and Anne Murray.”  Following Jody’s first Billboard hit, “He Walks Like a Man, “ her reputation as a cross-over artist was established with her Grammy winning hit “Queen of the House,” which broke on a jazz station and reached #12 on Billboard Hot 100, #5 on Hot Country, and #4 on Easy Listening. As U.K. journalist Tony Byworth has written in Country Music People , two-time Academy of Country Music Top Female nominee Jody Miller can make any type of material “attain a certain greatness.”

With thirty-one Billboard charting singles to her credit, including the Grammy nominated cross-over hit “He’s So Fine,”  and the CMA nominated duet hit “Let’s All Go Down to the River,” Jody Miller’s warm and engaging stage presence has made her a fan favorite through the years at various rodeos, state fairs, coliseums, and Las Vegas showrooms. As a natural entertainer whom the camera loves, some of Jody’s memorable television appearances include American BandstandShindig!Hollywood-A-Go GoThe Jimmy Dean ShowHee HawPop! Goes the Country and Nashville Now. From The Tonight Show to the Trinity Broadcasting Network, Jody Miller has proven musically that she can do it all.

After taking a break for most of the 80’s to spend more time with her family and to help her husband with his thriving quarter horse breeding and training business, Jody recorded a patriotic album which caught the attention of then-Presidential candidate George H. W. Bush, who invited her to sing at campaign stops and eventually his inaugural ball at the White House. Jody’s foray into this “music with meaning” led to her long and successful Gospel music ministry, including a half dozen Gospel CD recordings and the calling to share her Testimony of faith with thousands of people  Recently, Jody’s masterful affinity for patriotic singing was once again lauded as she dazzled fans and industry insiders alike with her moving version of the National Anthem, as well as her hits, when returning to Nashville in November 2016, in addition to multiple concert appearances in several states throughout 2017.

At this point in her five decades career, Jody Miller continues to perform for enthusiastic audiences, while her high quality body of work is enjoying a critical re-appraisal through the monthly online radio broadcast “In the Spotlight with Jody Miller,” presented by Baltimore Net Radio/MyBNR.com for world-wide listeners. Both Universal Music Group and Sony Music have released well-received 21st century collections of Jody’s 60’s and 70’s Capitol and Epic hits, respectively. Jody is enjoying the fruits of her life and career, as she was recently honored by Governor Mary Fallin, who proclaimed July 29, 2016, as “Jody Miller Day” across Oklahoma, resulting in the annual “Jody Miller Day Show” in the singer’s beloved hometown of Blanchard.  2018 brought UMG’s 50th anniversary digital release of Jody’s landmark work The Nashville Sound of Jody Miller, as well as the digital single release of “Where My Picture Hangs on the Wall,” with her family group Three Generations. 2018 was capped off with Jody’s long overdue induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. At the dawn of 2019, Jody Miller looks ahead to her upcoming appearances and various projects which will allow her to weave her wit and inspiration into each performance as only she can.
